1977: McCutchanville Responds to UE Plane Crash

December 13, 1977

On Dec. 13, 1977, a DC-3 charter plane, carrying the University of Evansville basketball team to Nashville, Tenn., crashed in rain and dense fog about 90 seconds after takeoff from Evansville Dress Regional Airport. The airplane crashed just north of Ward Rd in Melody Hills. The crash site was isolated in the thick wooded area between the neighborhood and airport. McCutchanville, Evansville, and Airport Regional Fire Departments responded.  Twenty-nine people died in the crash, including 14 members of the team and its head coach Bob Watson.
